Reparative Practices & the Climate Crisis Workshop

In collaboration with sustainability designer Donna Maione, PhD, I co-developed a workshop accepted for the prestigious Design Research Society 2024 Conference that rethinks how design addresses the climate crisis. Rather than quick fixes or superficial “patches,” our session invited participants to engage in hands-on mending, reflective stitching, and regenerative design practices that embody care, patience, and social responsibility. Through immersive activities and deep dialogue, attendees explored how slow, tactile repair can inspire transformative approaches to sustainability and social justice—both within design disciplines and broader communities. This workshop bridged embodied knowledge with systemic thinking, offering a fresh, human-centered model for climate action rooted in reparative creativity.
